Biography: Dorothy Leonard is the William J. Abernathy Professor of Business administration at the Harvard Business School, where she teaches classes on new product and process development, manufacturing, technology strategy, and technology implementation. She is also a faculty member of Harvard Programs on Enhancing Corporate Creativity and Managing International Collaboration. She has been at Harvard for twelve years; previously she taught at the Sloan School of Management at MIT. At Harvard, MIT, Digital, AT&T, Johnson&Johnson, and other corporations, she has conducted executive courses on a wide range of technology-related topics, such as cross-functional interfaces and technology transfer during new product and process development.
Professor Leonard's major research interests and consulting expertise are in technology development and commercialization. She is currently undertaking an international study of these topics in the multimedia industry, with special emphasis on managing geographically dispersed new product development teams. As a consultant, she has worked with governments such as Sweden, Jamaica, and the United States and major corporations such as Kodak, Monsanto, and Silicon Graphics on technology management. Professor Leonard has written more than twenty-five articles for books and journals and dozens of field-based studies.
